Tax Advisory

Personalised tax advice from ICAEW chartered accountants in London — your current position optimised, your future planned, and every return filed on time.

Our tax advisory services help you pay only what you owe. You'll receive guidance tailored to your circumstances across personal, business, property and international tax — delivered by a team that includes an in-house Chartered Tax Advisor and specialists who previously worked for HMRC.

Capital Gains Tax Planning

Planning services: annual exempt amount utilisation and disposal timing, Business Asset Disposal Relief planning ahead of business sales, capital losses planning, no-gain-no-loss transfers between spouses and civil partners, and tax-efficient disposal strategies around the share-matching rules.

Compliance services: CGT computations and returns — including 60-day returns on UK residential property disposals — reporting deadline management, and HMRC enquiry support.

Personal and Business Tax Planning

Personal: income tax optimisation through efficient remuneration structures, pension contribution planning, tax-efficient investments, full use of allowances and rate bands (increasingly valuable with thresholds frozen until April 2031), and marriage allowance and other reliefs.

Business: corporation tax planning and optimisation, tax-efficient structures and reorganisations, R&D relief and other claims, capital allowances planning, and group tax planning with loss utilisation.

Inheritance Tax Planning

Planning services: nil-rate band and residence nil-rate band utilisation (up to £500,000 per person where a home passes to direct descendants, and transferable between spouses), gift planning and annual exemption strategies, trust structures for IHT mitigation, business and agricultural property relief planning, and pension death benefit planning.

Estate planning: will planning and estate structuring, lifetime gifting strategies, family investment company structures, cross-border estate planning, and regular reviews as rules and circumstances change.

Children's Savings, Child Trust Funds and Junior ISAs

Child Trust Funds closed to new accounts in 2011, and every remaining account matures by January 2029 as holders turn 18 — yet over a million matured or maturing CTFs remain unclaimed. We help families trace accounts using HMRC's free service, decide whether to withdraw or transfer (for example into an ISA), and top up existing CTFs, which can still receive up to £9,000 a year.

More broadly we advise on Junior ISAs, bare trusts and other structures for children, gift planning to children and grandchildren, and the parental settlement rules that can tax a child's income back on the parent.

Income Tax Returns

Self-assessment returns prepared and filed: employment income, pensions and benefits, self-employment and partnership income, property income, and investment income and capital gains.

Service features: Making Tax Digital compliant record-keeping and submissions — including the quarterly updates now mandatory for sole traders and landlords with income over £50,000 — tax calculation and liability optimisation, payments on account management, HMRC correspondence handled, and deadline management so penalties never arise.

Property Taxes

Rental property: income tax on rents with all allowable expenses claimed, property loss utilisation, non-resident landlord scheme compliance, and property investment company structuring. Note the furnished holiday lettings regime was abolished from April 2025 — former FHL owners should have their position reviewed.

Disposals and purchases: CGT on property sales including private residence relief planning and 60-day reporting, SDLT advice and planning including surcharges and reliefs, and ATED compliance for corporate-held homes.

Business Tax

Comprehensive business tax services for finance directors and business owners: corporation tax (19%–25% with marginal relief planning), R&D relief under the merged scheme, Patent Box at an effective 10% rate, double taxation advice, EIS and SEIS support, and capital allowances — including the £1 million Annual Investment Allowance, full expensing, structures and buildings allowance and first-year allowances.

International Tax

Cross-border tax presents real complexity, with each jurisdiction operating its own framework. The UK's extensive treaty network determines which country taxes what, and we advise overseas clients and expatriates on minimising UK obligations — including the Statutory Residence Test, split-year treatment and the 4-year foreign income and gains (FIG) regime for new arrivals.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What services does a tax advisor provide?
Comprehensive tax planning, compliance and advisory services — from self-assessment returns and CGT planning to inheritance tax, business tax and international matters — designed to minimise your tax while keeping you fully compliant with UK legislation.
How can a tax advisor help reduce my tax bill?
Through strategic planning: claiming every relief and allowance, optimising business and remuneration structures, timing transactions across tax years, and using government incentives such as R&D relief, capital allowances and pension contributions. With tax thresholds frozen until April 2031, planning saves more each year.
When should I consult a tax advisor?
Before major decisions — starting or selling a business, buying property, receiving an HMRC enquiry, planning retirement or passing on wealth. Early engagement creates options; advice after the event can only tidy up.
What is the difference between tax planning and tax avoidance?
Tax planning uses reliefs, allowances and incentives exactly as Parliament intended — legal and encouraged. Tax avoidance exploits loopholes through artificial arrangements and invites HMRC challenge. Tax evasion is illegal. We only do the first.
How much do tax advisory services cost?
It depends on complexity and whether you need one-off advice or ongoing support. We offer transparent pricing with fixed-fee and retainer arrangements — contact us for a tailored quote.
Do I need a tax advisor if I already have an accountant?
Many accountants provide basic tax compliance, but a specialist tax advisor adds deeper expertise in planning, structuring and HMRC dispute handling. Our team includes an in-house Chartered Tax Advisor — the UK's highest tax qualification.
